Aristotle

Example to prove Aristotle wrong:

I told my driver to get me black fake feathers, but he didn't understand. To explain him what i needed, I told him they were  the hair/coat of a chicken, the feathers.
..
He came back with actual white/grey/black chicken feathers. Washed, dried and perfumed.

Paragraph 2

140603. Not a date of birth. Not an anniversary date. Not a favorite number. But an identification number. Tattoos have multiple functions. Not only are they there to tattoo an identity piece of choice onto your skin, but in WW2 the victims of the concentration camp got it as an identification.
By this progress it was easier to keep track of the people since there was such a large number, especially in Auschwitz. Even though this was a despiteous time, the tattoo had a function and we should always remember those times. On the other hand it was also a good resource through that we learned history since it lasts permanent. Tattoos are not justing for fun, they learn and teach for the future.

Paragraph 1

It's nothing new. Even in the 18th century tattoos were, what everyone wanted, though the today's meaning has differentiated. Tattoos have already started their career  decades ago.
Earlier in 1784 tattoos were worn by people. As it is shown, this maori-one of the first seen by Cook and his crew has unremovable marks in his face. It's not just a creation of the last years, tattoos have been present since about 300 years. They were there to mark themselves indelibly according to their character and interests. Tattoos have kept their popularity since that timing. But not only were they used back then to identify themselves, they had a special function in WW2.

Monologue

"The Princess Bride"
by William Goldman.
Count Rugen explains his fascination with pain to Westley.

I'm very interested in pain....In an intellectual way, actually.  I've written, of course, for the more learned journals on the subject.  Articles mostly.  At the present I'm engaged in writing a book.  My book.  The book, I hope.  The definitive work on pain, at least as we know it now....I think pain is the most underrated emotion available to us....The Serpent, to my interpretation, was pain.  Pain has been with us always, and it always irritates me when people say 'as important as life and death' because the proper phrase, to my mind, should be, 'as important as pain and death.'....One of my theories....is that pain involves anticipation.  Nothing original, I admit, but I'm going to demonstrate to you what I mean: I will not, underline, not, use the Machine on you this evening.  I could.  It's ready and tested.  But instead I will simply erect it and leave it beside you, for you to stare at the next twenty-four hours, wondering just what it is and how it works and can it really be as dreadful as all that....I'll leave you to your imagination, then.  But I want you to know one thing before tomorrow night happens to you, and I mean it: you are the strongest, the most brilliant and brave, the most altogether worthy creature it has ever been my privilege to meet, and I feel almost sad that, for the purposes of my book and future pain scholars, I must destroy you....Good night now.  Try and sleep.  I doubt you'll be able to.  Anticipation, remember?
One day, a fool wandered into the castle and found the king alone.  Being simple-minded, he didn't see a king, he saw a man alone and in pain.  "What ails you, friend?" he asked the king.  The king replied, "I'm thirsty.  I need a sip of water to cool my throat."  So the fool took a cup from the bedside table, filled it with water, handed it to the king.  As the king began to drink he realized that his wound was healed.  He looked at his hands, and there in them was the Holy Grail.  And he turned to the fool and asked, "How could you find what my brightest and bravest could not?"  And the fool replied, "I don't know.  I only knew that you were thirsty."
Very beautiful, isn't it?  I think I heard it at a lecture once...I don't know...a professor...at Hunter.

Cool Jazz

During the 1940's there were many different styles of music evolving simultaneously. Cool jazz developed during the late 1940's at approximately the same time as bebop, and remained popular for several decades. Cool jazz was more subtle, moody, muted, and restrained than bebop, and may have been influenced by the harmonies of 20th-century art music composers like Stravinsky and Debussy.
Two of the most important contributors to the cool jazz style were trumpeter Miles Davisand pianist, bandleader, and composer-arranger Gil Evans. Other cool jazz musicians were saxophonists Gerry Mulligan and Lee Konitz, trumpeters Chet Baker and Conte Candoli, trombonists Frank Rosolino and Bob Brookmeyer, guitarists Wes Montgomery and Barney Kessel, pianists John Lewis, Dave Brubeck, and Lennie Tristano, bassist Red Mitchell, and drummers Shelley Manne and Mel Lewis.

Marlon Brando

Style Icon!
Marlon Brando: Style Icon

Why He's A Style Icon

Lauded by many in the movie industry as Hollywood's original rebel, Marlon Brando played by his own rules, both on-screen and in his personal life. His appearance in 1953's The Wild Onehelped solidify his bad-boy image, and his strikingly good looks coupled with his ability to mesmerize audiences with his performance quickly gained him notoriety as a sex symbol. Soon, teenagers everywhere wanted to dress like Marlon Brando, talk like him and imitate his brooding mannerisms.

A trailblazer when it came to both acting and style, Brando shared a commonality with many style icons: he wasn't afraid to venture into unfamiliar territory, even wearing jeans to movie premieres despite this wardrobe choice being heavily frowned upon at the time. In fact, in just a few short years, the magnetic star popularized motorbike paraphernalia as a way to dress defiantly and had inspired an entire generation to take a stance against the establishment. Altogether, Marlon Brando's tough-guy look came to epitomize the social upheaval that began in 1950s America, securing the silver-screen legend a place in the style icon hall of fame for all time.

Everyone either wanted him or wanted to be like him."
  • What You Need To Know
  • James Dean wardrobe staples include white tees, denim and a leather jacket.
  • He wore dressier duds like the shawl collar jacket that he is recognized for having resurrected.
  • His rebellious look marked a definite departure from predominantly preppy styles.

Why He's A Style Icon

James Dean, who himself was a man of few words, requires little explanation when it comes to discussing his status as a style icon. He was the king of cool.

Stuff about the word COOL

Cool’ as a word in its present form and meaning appeared in Western mainstream culture back in the 1950s. But the real roots go way beyond these 60 years in the past. In Cool Rules Pountain and Robins claim that although cool is often linked to the US lifestyles and popular culture, we should not ignore it originates from Black Americans. Art historians found proof that the concept of ‘itutu’ was one of the three main pillars in religions of ancient West African Yoruba and Ibo civilizations of the 15th century. It meant gentleness of character, the ability to avoid fights and disputes, even generosity and grace.
Cool was also associated with physical beauty in this sacred culture but only in combination with character.

Coolness evolved from an original African virtue to passive resistance through shared attitude and style.

This underground atmosphere(drug society) was then transposed tothe edgy, gangster chic associations of the word ‘cool’.

Hollywood also saw potential in the concept of cool.

Cool’ was now an attitude of choice among youth instead of a defensive mechanism.

‘Cool’ switched from a passive to an active attitude.

At this time the advertising industry, the Madison Avenue engine behind consumer capitalism in the 1960s, understood that the cool ideology had a big sales potential.

1970s' vanished, BUT their different haircuts, vocabulary, clothes and attitudes were just another way of expressing good old ‘coolness’

Again this is proof that since the 1960s ‘cool’ has belonged to consumption and marketing

What is seen as ‘cool’ changes over time, and varies over geographical locations and generations.

Toast is good - All in!

Never say never to a toast. Not until you have tasted a toast according to your taste, it will be hard to resist. Toast is good. The reasons rely on timing, taste and variety, which make it a delicious toast at perfect timing, just as you want it. Therefore we have to begin with the intrinsic value of time, a day has no more hours than twenty-four.

Toast it whenever you want it. You start off your day with breakfast, continue with lunch and end it with dinner, but there’s no schedule for toast, have it before, after or in between a meal or as a meal. Toast can be consumed at all times of the day. When you are exhausted from sport, a toast afterwards can lighten up your day. Even when you come home from school and you’re starving just a grab a toast. Since it is quick and easy to make, it fits into any time of your day’s plan, there is no need of cooking skills or lots of time to make a tasty toast. Having it as lunch or/and breakfast due to its versatile of toppings the toast can change from being sweet to lusty; therefore it can be eaten early in the morning, at noon or late at night. Even when you are tiered, you can easily grab a toast, which will satisfy your hunger and accompany you warm and cozy in your stomach into your dreams. Any time you feel like it or need it, toast is variable and always ready to be eaten with the perfect matching topping.

With its golden crusty surface it is impossible to resist. Anything found in a grocery store makes it possible to top the golden surface of a toast; there is no limit in which ways you can eat your toast. Add on top what ever your heart desires, it is as versatile as you would have never thought. Nutella, cheese, jelly, ham, salad, butter, chocolate, chili, peanut butter, even fish, any thing and however. There is no other type of food, which gives us as the consumer such a wide variety of choice to create our own toast. You can mix, layer or just keep it simple as you wish. The tastes on the globe differentiate but yet it is eaten all over cause to its variety of toppings. The point being is that it still tastes good no matter what you add to toast. You can have it anyway you want it.

Hot or cold? Dark or light? The toast itself is also possible to modify to meet one’s expectations of a perfect toast. The sliced bread can be in every way you wish to be it. Either having a cold peanut butter and jelly sandwich because of lack of time or a nice hot roasted toast with melted butter can satisfy your hunger. For how long and in which way you toast your sliced piece of bread is a personal decision according to liking. People prefer having it longer in the toaster to get the dark crispy surface other prefer the slightly golden slice, simple as that they just get their toast out earlier. But then you can also decide wither to have it cold or hot, it all depends on the person, mood and time. Ones enjoy feeling the warmth of the toast dissolve in their mouths others prefer it quick and cold. Toast gives the human the opportunity to match it perfectly with its taste, which makes it irresistible.

Unlimited. Of course toast is limited in its production but the variety and timing let’s the creativity the sky open. As it has been explained toast is one of the most beneficial invention in life. Remember that it can save time, adding the saved time up, you will see it will give you more time in life to do better things than trying to satisfy your hunger, apart from having the opportunity to eat it how you want it. Human wants and needs are scarce, yet looking at the capability of a toast it makes it desirable and unlimited.

Toast is good.

Toast eaten all over the world, how can that not be good? It all began with the invention of bread and moved on to sliced bread until the mid 20th century when the toaster was invented as well as the real good toast. With it's golden crusty surface it is impossible to resist. That's why toast can be eaten at all times of the day because it is so adorable. You start off your day with having a toast, quick and easy to make. But even when you are exhausted from sport, a toast afterwards can lighten up your day.  Not only then it is possible to eat the great invention of the toasted bread, as a snack in between fits perfectly. It's lightness doesn't make you tiered instead keeps you up since it supplies you with the needed energy. No matter what time it is, you can even be a talent-free cooker, there are no needs of skills to make a tasty toast. The variety of toppings can fit your mood and time of the day. No time to eat? The toast can make it possible on a busy day to satisfy your hunger, since the supplies needed to make it don't have to be more than one. The toast also has a great taste eaten cold, which would make it even faster to make. Toast is good, because it can be served at any time of the day in any form to match your situation and make your hunger go away. Even though all over the world tastes are different, because of its variety the perfect topping can be found,  hence it can be eaten between east and west at any time of day.

Synecdoche

Synecdoche (sih-NECK-duh-kee)
Figure of comparison in which a word standing for part of something is used for the whole of that thing or vice versa; any part or portion or quality of a thing used to stand for the whole of the thing or vice versa -- genus to species or species to genus.

Examples:
"Give us this day our daily bread."
-- Matthew 6:11
Note: In this case, the part (bread) stands in for the whole (food and perhaps other necessities of life)

Note: In this case, the whole (hospital) stands in for one of its parts (the attending physician and health care workers).

Missing type of poetry: Lyric poetry

Definition of Lyric Poetry
Lyric Poetry consists of a poem, such as a sonnet or an ode, that expresses the thoughts and feelings of the poet. The term lyric is now commonly referred to as the words to a song. Lyric poetry does not tell a story which portrays characters and actions. The lyric poet addresses the reader directly, portraying his or her own feeling, state of mind, and perceptions.

1-paragraph-analysis

The sea of sunset
Emily Dickinson

The poem "The sea of sunset" written by Emily Dickinson describes the idea of a sunset. To me the poem gives an imaginary picture of a sunset and the verses mostly describe scenes you identify a sunset with. The poem is set up into two stanzas and made up of four verses, which form a cross rhyme to give the poem a flow like the sunset. Since this poem is about a natural occurrence a couple of words such as "Yellow sea" (v.2), "western"(v.4) and "horizons"(v.7) are used out of the nature vocabulary to connect it more with the poem. The poet uses in the first verse the verb "washes", which refers to the title of the poem, the sun washes away into the sea and the orient of the sea is names in the next verse "Yellow sea". As well as the verb "rushes"(v. 3) is a metaphor saying that the days pass quickly by as a contrast to this the verb "rose" at the beginning of the same verse describes the sunrise as solid. The repetition of "night"  used in the fifth verse declares that the sunset happens every night over and over again with the same appearances such as the ships disappearing in the horizons. Emily Dickinson uses a hyperbole by using the words "dip" and "vanish" (v.8) to bring out the rapidness of the sunset. But she combines it with a dreamy atmosphere when using the adjective "fairy"(v.8) and the verb "poise"(v.7). The meter is consistent except one verse inconsistent, which expresses the main part of the poem, the place from what perspective the sunset is seen in this poem.  In general the poet uses a lot of metaphors to bring more attention into the poem and picture it visually. She accentuates different parts in the poem, for example in the last verse, by using contrast. All in all the poem relays on the idea of a place where the sun goes down and the ship vanish in a dreamy way. I like this poem because it gives a good picture where, when and how the sunset takes place.

Poem

The Sea Of Sunset

by Emily Dickinson
1830-1886

This is the land the sunset washes,
These are the banks of the Yellow Sea
Where it rose, or whither it rushes,
These are the western mystery!

Night after night her purple traffic
Strews the landing with opal bales;
Merchantmen poise upon horizons,
Dip, and vanish with fairy sails.

Und nun komm, du alter Besen!Come on now, old broom, get dressed,

Ach, ich merk' es! Wehe! Wehe!   I've forgotten - woe is me!

Ach, er läuft und bringt behende!Oh, he runs, and keeps on going!
Wärst du doch der alte Besen!Wish you'd be a broom once more!
Immer neue GüsseHe keeps bringing water
bringt er schnell herein, quickly as can be,
Ach, und hundert Flüsseand a hundred rivers

Ach, nun wird mir immer bänger!   I'm beginning to feel sick.
Welche Miene! Welche Blicke!   What a look! - and what a face!

O, du Ausgeburt der Hölle!O, you ugly child of Hades!
Soll das ganze Haus ersaufen? The entire house will drown!
Seh' ich über jede SchwelleEverywhere I look, I see

Ein verruchter Besen!Be you damned, old broom,

Stock, der du gewesen,Be a stick once more,
steh doch wieder still!please, I beg you, stay!

Willst's am Ende   Is the end
gar nicht lassen?   not in sight?
Will dich fassen,   I will grab you,
will dich halten,   hold you tight,
und das alte Holz behende   with my axe I'll split the brittle
mit dem scharfen Beile spalten.   old wood smartly down the middle.

Seht, da kommt er schleppend wieder! Here he comes again with water!
Wie ich mich nur auf dich werfe,Now I'll throw myself upon you,
gleich, o Kobold, liegst du nieder!and the sharpness of my axe
Krachend trifft die glatte Schärfe.I will test, o spirit, on you.
Wahrlich, brav getroffen!Well, a perfect hit!
Seht, er ist entzwei!See how he is split!
Und nun kann ich hoffen,Now there's hope for me,
und ich atme frei!and I can breathe free!

Wehe! Wehe!   Woe is me! Both pieces
Beide Teile   come to life anew,
steh'n in Eile   now, to do my bidding
schon als Knechte   I have servants two!
völlig fertig in die Höhe!   Help me, o great powers!
Helft mir, ach ihr hohen Mächte!   Please, I'm begging you!

Und sie laufen! Nass und nässerAnd they're running! Wet and wetter
wird's im Saal und auf den Stufen, get the stairs, the rooms, the hall!
Welch entsetzliches Gewässer! What a deluge! What a flood!
Herr und Meister, hör' mich rufen!Lord and master, hear my call!
Ach, da kommt der Meister!Ah, here comes the master!
Herr, die Not ist groß!I have need of Thee!
Die ich rief, die Geister, from the spirits that I called
werd' ich nun nicht los.Sir, deliver me!

„In die Ecke  “Back now, broom,
   Besen, Besen!   into the closet!
Seids gewesen,   Be thou as thou
   denn als Geister   wert before!
ruft euch nur zu seinem Zwecke   Until I, the real master
